Over the past two years, UA Resistance has had the honor of traveling to our nation’s capital to attend the Ukraine Action Summit, a key advocacy event hosted by the American Coalition for Ukraine. Alongside other dedicated advocates, we met with our Representatives and Senators to discuss crucial legislative initiatives related to Ukraine.

We advocated for recognizing russian actions in Ukraine as genocide through H.Res.154/S.Res.72, we highlighted the importance of H. Res. 149/S. Res 158, which condemns the illegal abduction of Ukrainian children to Russia. We emphasized the need for accountability for war crimes with H.R. 506/S.416, a bipartisan bill proposing to designate the Wagner Group as a foreign terrorist organization.

We also addressed the need for prosecuting the crime of aggression against Ukraine and the establishment of a Special Tribunal via H. Res. 81. US national security issues were also on the agenda, including energy security with H.Res.1042/S.763, which seeks to ban russian uranium imports, and food security with H.R. 683, PASS Act of 2023, which would prevent the sale of agricultural land to state agents of China, Iran, North Korea and russia. We covered H.R. 892/H.R.1254, bills which seek to redeploy frozen russian central bank reserves for the reconstruction of Ukraine.

Additionally, we briefed congressional staffers on the matters of russia’s presence in the UN Security Council (H. Res. 267) pointing out the hypocrisy of russia’s presidency of the Council while it commits en masse atrocities in Ukraine. Finally, with H. Res. 267 we reminded members of Congress that it’s not the first time that russia is trying to erase Ukrainian identity, independence, and sovereignty, recalling the 1932-33 Holodomor, a genocide designed to crush Ukrainian resistance to Soviet repression.
